On October 22, NIS America invites you to the never-before-seen lands of the expanded Erebonian countryside in the latest installment of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel franchise, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III. And to keep the hype for this PS4 exclusive game alive, NIS America revealed that an English Demo for the game is now officially available for PS4.
The announcement was accompanied by a 5-minute deep dive into the upcoming The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III. The video gave us a glimpse of the game’s dynamic characters, intense combat, as well as its compelling narrative.
Also, it is worth noting that you can carry over your adventure from the demo straight up to the full game. Worry not though newcomers, the game also includes an in-game library where you can find a bunch of information from the previous two installments, character bios, and other terminology which is just perfect for a beginner’s guide! Plus, this also serves as a refresher for the series’ veterans. Play the game without missing a beat!
Moreover, NIS America’s Public Relations Coordinator, Erin Kim, also shared more details about Trails of Cold Steel III’s gameplay. Check it out below:
Aside from familiar mechanics like fishing, new features are brought to the table such as the Vantage Masters mini-game. The combat system has also been improved, thanks to the addition of Brave Orders and the Break System. Brave Orders provide party-wide buffs to give an upper hand for a certain number of turns, and are specific to each character. The Break System is shown as a blue bar underneath the enemy’s health. Damaging the enemies will decrease their Break meter until it’s depleted to zero, to which they become “Broken.” A “Broken” enemy drops its items, is more susceptible to damage, has their buffs cancelled, and is unbalanced by all attacks and crafts!

Game Overview
It has been a year and a half since the Erebonian civil war has ended. Rean and the rest of his peers from the renowned Class VII played a vital role in the said war that heralded them as a war hero. Now, the empire’s peace is once again at the brink of death. Play as Trails of Cold Steel’s main protagonist, Rean Schwarzer, who is now a graduate from Thors Military Academy. Rean began his new life as an instructor at the newly-opened academy in Thors Branch Campus.
And that is where the new batch of Class VII comes to life. Luckily, these new batch of heroes is Rean’s students. Rean must guide them into an unknown future at all costs. The nefarious Ouroboros organization is just around the corner planning to weave a dark plot that could sink the whole region in war…or maybe something even more wicked.
Trails of Cold Steel III invites players into a world full of intrigue and excitement that is years in the making. They will embark on a whirlwind tour through the never-before-seen lands of the recently expanded Erebonian countryside, and encounter fresh faces as well as old friends familiar to fans of the series. In true Trails fashion, the deep, engaging story pairs with an incredible cast of characters and a combat system refined over decades of innovative RPG worldbuilding. – NIS America
