As its denomination explains it well, a fighting game is an action game in which two or more characters fight each other; within this macro category, we can find dozens of different subgenres that make it one of the most varied universes in the gaming industry.
The birth of this extensively played genre goes back to 1976 when Sega released the first fighting game of history: Heavyweight Champ. Offering a black & white graphics and only one playable character this boxing game has inaugurated the build of a long road which continues still today; since that fateful year a lot of fighting games have reached the big audience, some of them are entered into legend (Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter), while some other faded into obscurity due to several reasons, among them is mandatory to mention Rise of the Robots, Human Killing Machine, and Rabbit. From this point of view, the most notable title is surely Skullgirls!

Created by Mike “Mike Z” Zaimont & Alex “o_8” Ahad in 2008, the first episode of this series came to light only in 2012 for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. Featuring an all-girl roster, an eye-popping cartoonish artstyle, and an easy to learn gameplay system; Skullgirls became a classic for all the fighting games lovers receiving many positive reviews that lead it to be nominated for many awards including the E3 Game Critics Awards, the 40th Annual Annie Awards, and the Best Fighting Game nominations from IGN & 1UP.
With only eight playable heroines; in this game, you must stop the monstrous Skull Girl known as Marie, and get the Skull Heart, a mystic relic thanks to which a woman can grant a wish, but at a very high price. Yes, the Skull Heart can fulfill it using a very brutal way; turning the person who had expressed the desire into an impure being…the Skull Girl!
