Considered capable to bewitch people, and transforms themselves at will; they fulfill also religious functions as the trusted messenger of the Shintō god Inari. Due to this duality; foxes (together with tanukis) are probably the most “human” creatures in the rich mythology of the Land of the Rising Sun.
Portrayed in hundreds of Ukiyo-e, anime, RPG, music, video games, and many other media; foxes are very powerful also as pop-icons, and through the centuries they have charmed millions of people that have been dazzled by their beauty, elegance, and charm.
