There was originally The Landlord’s Game. Created during 1902 by Elizabeth Magie; this innovative boardgame was promoted as a “practical demonstration of the present system of land grabbing with all its usual outcomes and consequences”. Playable in two very different ways; in the monopolist style, the goal was to get as many properties possible to kick out the opponents from the game, while the anti-monopolist style was focused on an everybody-win mechanic in which wealth was equally distributed among all.

This amazing invention is considered the progenitor of one of the most popular games of all time… Monopoly.
Its first digital incarnation dates back to 1985 when The Computer Edition of Waddingtons Monopoly has been released for Commodore 64, Sinclair ZX81/Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, and BBC Micro; since then dozens of upgraded versions reached the store shelves to bring the most faithful experience even in front on a screen. But, despite the Monopoly is the most popular it is not the only one.
