The history of the tile-matching game brings us back to the distant 1984!
During that year a lot of gaming gems that became real classics have been released: Marble Madness, 1942, Kung-Fu Master, Tower of Druaga, and many others. But, on June 6, in the cold Soviet Union, a new kind of game appeared to conquer the world…its name was Tetris!
Developed by the computer engineer Alexey Pajitnov on Electronika 60 (a microcomputer produced by the Soviet Ministry of Electronic Industry); in this innovative game the player’s mission was to guide random geometrical pieces who fall from above, and lining up all of them correctly to let disappear them and clear the stage.

Simple to play, but extremely hard to master; Tetris is the godfather of the puzzle genre. For four years the game has been relegated to the academic environment of the Moscow’s Computer Center; when in 1988 thanks to Mikhail Gorbachev’s political & economic reformation known as Perestroika, it overcome the Union borders to be shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and one year later a copy of Tetris has been bundled with Game Boy becoming a huge worldwide success!
