Crash Bandicoot or クラッシュ バンディクー?
Even if similar, there are some little differences about the very first PlayStation mascot. Created by Naughty Dog’s Andy Gavin & Jason Rubin in 1996; the history of this cute character originally appeared in Crash Bandicoot for the first PlayStation.

While mascots like Sonic & Super Mario coming from the Land of the Rising Sun, this mutant eastern barred bandicoot has its roots in America. As an aspiring global mascot, it’s useless to say that soon after the release in western countries; Crash Bandicoot arrived in Japan becoming the only non-Japanese successful product of the year. Hailed as the most notable case in recent memory of a Western game becoming popular in Japan; thanks for its beautiful game design, and the kawaii-ness of the characters “the first distance-scrolling action game in the universe” transcended the cultural differences between the various cultures of the world, unifying them level after level.

Anyway, the western Crash Bandicoot and the Japanese クラッシュ バンディクー show some differences to be appealing for the biggest number of gamers. The first one is that the Japanese version was easier than the other versions; before the release, Japanese testers found it too difficult, and due to this Naughty Dog recalibrated the difficulty level. Another one is the localization, for example, the Japanese level names use gentler terms… the N.Sanity Beach turned into Waking Beach (めざめのビーチ). Also, box-art is different to meet the taste of the potential customers; while the US cover is “aggressive” and “serious”, the Japanese one shows a more anime-looking Crash with big eyes and a sort of overall roundness!
Thanks to these little differences; Crash Bandicoot won the challenge of time arriving at these days with the unmissable Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time for PS5, NS & XBXS!
