Spy x Family – Whatever happens, we’re a family!

Today, we go back to the roaring 1920s; that was an era of great changes, an era of “pleasure seeking, entertainment, and decadence”. This was real not only in Europe and America but also in Japan where modernism reflected a total change in everyday lifestyles. Soon after the big Kanto earthquake in 1923, Tokyo has been rebuilt entirely laying the foundation of the nowadays megalopolis; the reconstruction wasn’t only physical but also cultural new kinds of trends appeared starting from 1924 when the essay entitled “The Appearance of Modern Girls” has been released.

The so-called moga & mobo (Modern Girls & Modern Boys) break away from the traditional values of the past, to live a new life made of airplanes, automobiles, movies, radio, sports, jazz, and detective stories. Initially seen as a sort of avant-garde; in each of these tales and novels, we may find many other sub-genres such as Futurism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Dadaism, etc. Authors like Edogawa Ranpo, Seichō Matsumoto, and Hase Seishū bring detective stories to the highest level making them one of the most popular literary genres. Inspiring series like Tesla Note, Agent Aika, and Night Raid 1931; we can consider them the natural evolution of what started as a highly criticized subject more than 100 years ago…Charmed by all these great stories; the mangaka Tatsuya Endo gives the detective stories a huge boost thanks to his Spy × Family series!

No matter what kind of trouble awaits us… let’s help each other!
