description

Breakers is a good, polished yet generic, mid-tier 90’s ‘beat-em-up’ and represents something of a leap over the contemporary 16-bit fighters of the time. Huge sprites, great animated backgrounds (which feature characters who actually react to the fights going on in front of them), consistent frame rate, great music, and effects makes Breakers a real treat for the senses. Breakers arrives on Dreamcast with a full feature set. Game modes, options, and roster are all intact. Visually the Dreamcast port of Breakers is also good.

Summary - It looks as though your appreciation for Breakers on the Dreamcast will live and die by your tastes for the fighting genre, and your affinity with previous incarnations of the game (or indeed, the sequel, Breakers Revenge). If you're totally new to the series and have no/little prior with SNK hardware, there's no reason at all that you'd get anything but thorough enjoyment out of Breakers. It's a fun and challenging fighter, which while hardly original does everything you'd expect it to do. Relive the classic fighter experience!!

A must have for Dreamcast Collectors.
A classic NEO GEO fighter. If you have an DC arcade stick and are a fighter game fan this is a must have. This game was not put out in other NEO GEO collections. Just make sure your DC is compatible. It wont run on the later production run of the system.

Loving it so far.

Great vs Fighter, but why not Breakers Revenge ?
Pretty close to the Street Fighter 2 mechanics and playstyle ( or also Fighters History from Data East ) - due the overkill on VS Fighting games on the Neo Geo System it didnt get much attention on release 1996. The 1997 follow-up Breakers Revenge isnt much different but fixes a few issues, adds one new fighter but feels a bit more playable. Would have been great to see Breakers Revenge on Dreamcast, but we take what we can get. Dreamcast Version - Nothing enhanced, better or changed, only suffering a bit due the loading times ( black screen for 10 -15 seconds ) compared with the NeoGeo / MVS.

The Dreamcast Lives
This is a fighting game that came out on the Neo Geo that has been enhanced and ported to the Dreamcast. The game reminds me of Street Fighters, which is a good thing. The 2D sprites are fluid and lovely and it's a nice fighter to add to any collectors Dreamcast collection before scalpers buy them all. Nonetheless, check out my YouTube channel where I will be doing a review on this game next month once I get my channel up and running (retro basement).
