description

Brought Back to Life Again is a reissue of Nekromantix's 1992 album Brought Back to Life, this time around appearing through Hellcat/Epitaph. Straightforward psychobilly is the name of the game here. The thrumming pulse of ringleader Kim Nekroman's coffin-shaped bass sits at the center of these songs, surrounded by approximations of rockabilly by guitarist Ian Dawn and drummer Grim Tim. It's approximations because Nekromantix are more interested in establishing an overall feel than nodding to traditionalism. They're enveloped in a world of zombies, and evil things who prey in the night; they'll go on a date, but only to the monster movies, and in fact love in Nekromantix world is kind of creepy, as "Nekrofelia" proves. An off-kilter version of the 1950s teen drama song (think "Last Kiss" by J. Frank Wilson), it deals with letters from beyond the grave and streaking graveyards out of love. None of this will be new to any Nekromantix or psychobilly fan. But Brought Back to Life Again's intro piece will be -- originally mangled, it was salvaged from the master tapes -- and there's also an alternate version of "Nekrofelia" that adds swirling organ and solemn church bells.
