Sonic Heroes:OST... too good to describe in this small area.
Before I begin this review I feel that I should warn you that I’m very bad at reviews (especially considering that this is probably my first “real” one for my first “real” OST to get) so don’t expect anything earth-shattering or too insightful for that matter. I know nothing about music except what I like about it (and a little bit of playing piano... and my DK bongos :)) so please don’t wine about how terrible this will be because I already know.

SHORT STORY: The first day I realised that a new (back then) Sonic game was coming out for my system and the other two, I got really excited and rented this game as soon as I could. The first few seconds that I played this game I fell in love with the control and the levels, quickly getting super hooked on it. I didn’t do very well at it (and I still don’t) but I did manage to beat the game with team Rose and make it to Rail Canyon with the other three teams. After that the game went back to the rental store, sadly, but the music stayed in my head. I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. Almost every song I heard in that game was so awesome and insanely catchy that it wouldn’t leave me. I had to do quench my music thirst so I quickly downloaded some midis and then mp3s of my favorite songs. The three that were especially fun, Casino Park, Grand Metropolis, and Emerald Challenge were my ultimate favorites (and still are).

But this wasn’t enough I longed to get the rest of them. I knew I could get them online but I just didn’t want to download every single one. Soon I heard that there was a CD collection for Sonic Heroes and went to a couple of stores, running to the electronics area to search for the CD that would end my quest that wonderful music. But to my horror (and total disbelief) none of them had it, so I decided to go to the last place I could get it: da internet. After a little bit of searching I found 3 websites that were selling them, one including Amazon. That site had it up for $50 but I definitely did not want to pay that much for it. The second site had it at a much better price, like $35 I think, and that seemed much better. However, I took a look at this site and knew that this was the best deal.

After just a few weeks (which felt like a few months) the CD arrived in the mail, along with a coupon for my next purchase here. I immediately shoved it into the player and to this day I can’t get enough. All of my favorite songs and also several others that I have learned to like. I just want to say, thanks playasia for giving this to me and at such a good price too!

REVIEW: A mighty crash with an earth-shaking sound. That is the only way I can describe this CD in one short sentence. Complete Trinity is an explosion of mastermind Jun Senoue’s brilliant music blasting out of electric guitars, pianos, violins, and other instruments from the great Sonic Team musicians that will launch you out of your seat. No, it is that good. If you crank up the volume in your car or at home when the family is gone, you will see just how incredible it is (I’m still dying to pop this baby into a BOSE wave system to get the full experience). Even if you’ve already listened to this music a trillion times in the game, you’ll want to have it with you at all the time everywhere else.

If it drives you nuts after awhile then take a break, listen to your other not-so-great rock music for awhile, and return to the best. Actually, a really great way to listen to this is by playing it in a CD player while you exercise or on the computer while you’re working on it (which is what I do). Because just listening to it by itself can get old eventually--since it is still background music--but listening to it while you do other stuff makes it even awesomer (yes, that’s a word).

So why a complete 5 stars, you ask? Well I wanted to give it 4.5 stars but that wasn’t available, and I didn’t want to stoop down to 4 stars so I decided to go all the way to the top. And here is why:

FAVORITES: You wanna know what my favorite tracks are? Take a gander at this! You probably won’t agree with all of my choices, and might think “Huh? Are you deaf? Why didn’t you put down this particular track? It rocks the world!” Hey, you can like whatever but this is just me here. I think you might agree with me on most of these.

DISC-A
01. SONIC HEROES / Opening ver.
02. STAGE 01: SEASIDE HILL
03. STAGE 02: OCEAN PALACE
06. STAGE 03: GRAND METROPOLIS (why is this so sad?! I almost cried the first few times I heard it!)
07. STAGE 04: POWER PLANT (What? What? What? : ))
08. SPECIAL STAGE: BONUS CHALLENGE
11. STAGE 05: CASINO PARK (the Sonic casino songs are always good, but this one blows all of them away. A brilliant gamble.)
12. STAGE 06: BINGO HIGHWAY (if the music wasn’t so great I would loathe this level)
16. BOSS: ROBOT CARNIVAL / ROBOT STORM
18. STAGE 08: BULLET STATION (another horrid level saved by the rockin’ music)
20. JINGLE: INVINCIBLE
21. BOSS: EGG ALBATROSS (the switch over from the fuzzy part at the beginning to the actual song is a nice touch)
24. BATTLE: CITY AREA

DISC-B
02. STAGE 00: SEA GATE
03. STAGE 09: FROG FOREST (not too exciting, but a nice peaceful song)
07. SPECIAL STAGE: EMERALD CHALLENGE (love this one to death! Bum-bum-budda-bum budda-bum-bum!)
09. STAGE 11: HANG CASTLE (bwerp bwerp bwerp, bwerp bwerp, ja-jeepers!!)
10. STAGE 12: MYSTIC MANSION (gotta love those doorbells! Creepy!)
13. STAGE 14: FINAL FORTRESS
18. WHAT I’M MADE OF... / LAST BOSS ver. 2: METAL OVERLOAD (I get so tired of these “I’m so much better than you and I’m gonna blow you away!” songs, and the lyrics in this one are kinda disturbing at one point, but overall still kewl)
20. SPECIAL STAGE: EMERALD CHALLENGE / Extended ver.
21. CASINO PARK / Original ver.
22. BINGO HIGHWAY / Remix ver. (listen to this 1,000 times and you’ll still never understand what the goober they’re saying o_0)

Not very much out of 50 but that’s enough for me. I’ve learned to like a lot of the ones I didn’t at first so there’s a few others I sometimes enjoy. You could find more or less, but no matter what the good ones really make up for the not-so-great ones.

DISLIKES: It’s hard to find stuff that’s not great about this but there is some stuff. First, I’m kinda bummed that the songs for each team weren’t included in a third CD or something, but I guess you can’t have everything you want. Second, like I said before the music can get boring or repetitive at times and make you scream “end the bloody song NOW!!” (I think we can all agree that Lost Jungle is the absolute worst), but on the other hand it might end too soon so you have to listen to it again to be satisfied. However, overall I think most of them have a good set time for repeating. And finally, there’s just not as much great music compared to the stuff in Sonic Adventure, IMOO. But that’s just what I think. The rest is gold and then some.

CONCLUSION: If you have enjoyed J.S.’s music in the past, I’m can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed by this. In my own opinion, this CD set should be sold in every single electronics store in America with all of those other great original soundtracks. And I’m not joking about that either. But for your sake, just to be safe, make sure you first rent this addictive game if you haven’t already (in case you don’t have a system, a local movie rental store, or hate Sonic... all of which are stupid reasons) to give it a go. Then if you like that and want even more of the same great stuff, be sure to buy the OST for Sonic Adventure which has lots more slammin’ Sonic music (I think I’ll try to get that next). And then be sure to watch Sonic X on TV every Saturday! And then buy a Sonic T-shirt, and a Sonic doll, and more Sonic video games, and Sonic toys, and join an online Sonic fan|atic club, and dye your hair blue, and...!
