description

Welcome to the world of the Dragon Quest. Ever since its first release in 1986, this is one of the series that defines Japanese RPGs and sets standard for it. Call your friends and get online. Turn yourself into elves, orcs, dwarves and other fantastic creatures. You are completely free to customize all aspects of your avatar. Log into the game, join together in the great hall and just socialize, or form your own team to travel from corner to corner in the great world. Quests and other challenges come out regularly, and the epic, touching stories that set standard for the series are back. Clear them in episodes, one at a time or run through the lot of them collectively.

Fun Game - Pain to Setup
This game is fun, but a potential nightmare to setup if you don't live in Japan. First off, you must have either a Japanese Wii, or a Wii modded so it thinks it's Japanese to paly this. Disabling region locking alone is not enough, and such a mod is risky and can potentially brick your Wii. You also need a 16 GB USB stick used exclusively for this game and nothing else. Even once that is done, the online servers IP block all addresses not in Japan. This is one of the most internationally un-friendly games I've ever seen; if you're not Japanese they do not want you on this game.

If you are able to get around all the obstacles and actually set this up, it is a very interesting take on the traditional Dragon Quest adventure. The game starts with an offline tutorial area that lasts 2-3 hours. Once you've finished the tutorial, it tries to take you online for the online portion of the game.

If you're not able to get around the IP blocks, all is not lost. There is an offline mode as well where you can play as the 2nd of the 2 characters you create at the start of the game. This will be the main game for you if you can't get online, but it is an enjoyable experience and lets you move around in a full 3D world and interact with a variety of colorful characters. This mode is reportedely somewhat short, but I've enjoyed my time in it so far and I've enjoyed exploring this new Dragon Quest world.

This game is really meant to be played as a MMORPG but offline only players do still have adventures available to them.
