Favorite game of my favorite series
I love the Etrian Odyssey games, with their interesting dungeon layouts to explore, their deep character progression systems, and their strategic combat encounters. Not all Etrian games are created equal, however. There are subtle and not-so-subtle differences in the character progression, exploration, and power-surge systems between games.

This installment is my favorite by far, and is the starting point I'd recommend for newcomers to the series. This is partly because exploring the overland maps in your airship is so interesting and painless (not to mention profitable), and partly because the ability to choose which power-surge options to take into combat adds an extra layer of customization. But mostly it's because the character progression systems for the different classes seem to fit together so cleanly, making it very easy to create a party that's fun and satisfying to play.

The warm embrace of exploration.
The first three Etrian Odysseys are great dungeon crawlers, but with their high difficulty and monotony of purpose, they’re very much an acquired taste. Etrian IV matches its hardcore depth to appealing visuals and more inviting design, and in doing so allows the series to transcend niche status. Atlus has crafted a fantastic portable RPG, and the perfect entry point for Etrian newcomers.

great
good so far. challenging like what you would expect from the EO series. World map is great, but I do miss the deep 25-floor stratums in the old games too.

So much challenge ahead
The game is good. Alot of class and your decision to creat map. Which is all this game is all about. It is a must have game if you own a 3ds.
