FedEx shipping rate updates - service improvements and massive rate cuts for lightweight orders

If you order at Play-Asia.com, you usually have a range of shipping methods you can choose from. Depending on your location this can be different airmail options (Economy Bubble, Economy Box) or courier methods.

FedEx has been one of our courier partners for many years and has been the choice for customers who want the fastest and best service available since then. Starting from today, we activated the new FedEx rates for 2010, and they are bringing quite a lot of changes:

First and most important, shipping by FedEx for all parcels lighter than 500g, no matter to which destination, gets significantly cheaper. The average price cut for light weight parcels is 25%, parcels to Europe get now shipped for roughly half of the 2009 rate.

For parcels between 1 and 3 kg, we also were able to negotiate further discounts, but unfortunately not all countries will benefit from the new rate tables. While Europe, the US, South America and most Asian countries will enjoy further discounts, the rates for Australia and New Zealand are unfortunately rising.

Parallel to the new rates, FedEx also introduced some serious service improvements with impacts on orders:

With a new fleet of Boeing 777 Freighter planes, FedEx now has more direct flights from Hong Kong to the US and from Hong Kong to their European Hub in France. Customers in the US and in Europe should now enjoy faster lead times and the number of customers who receive their orders within 1 day should be increased for both destinations.

Similar improvements are achieved for the greater Tokyo area, were FedEx customers now should enjoy a next day delivery in most cases.
