Great
I love pixel art. I also love the SNES era of Final Fantasies. I expected a great deal from this book and was ultimately disappointed.

FF1 (48 pages), FF2 (44 pages), and FF3 (54 pages) receive fantastic treatment. It's a beautiful homage to the pixel art that showcases the character sprites, maps, battle effects, monster sprites, backgrounds, etc. The pixel art is all original except for a couple of pages that demonstrate the 2018 versions.

FF4 (26 pages), FF5 (30 pages), and FF6 (26 pages), on the other hand, receive scant treatment. They're allocated roughly half of the pages that their predecessors were afforded despite the fact that they house so much more beautiful pixel art. Furthermore, the few pages provided are often heavily marred by the 2018 versions of the pixel art. In my eyes, the 2018 versions are a perversion of the original material from which they are based. I bought this book expecting a love letter to the original pixel art, instead I received a collection of these modern aberrations.

FF7-FF15 receive 18 pages of their 2018 versions. There is no original pixel art for these Final Fantasies so seeing the 2018 versions doesn't bother me here.

Overall, if you loved the NES/Famicom era of Final Fantasies (FF1-3) then you'll be pleased. If you loved the SNES/Super Famicom era of Final Fantasies (FF4-6), then you'll likely be disappointed.
