Game fans are all waiting for the newest Tales of Xillia. Find the theme song Progress in the album. Hamasaki discussed extensively with the staff when she penned the lyrics. The music producers also invited Urada Naoya to collaborate with Hamasaki for the touching ballad Another Song. Last but not least, the mystery in her fifth song Brilliante leaves her listeners wanting more.

Exceptionally powerful singing from a beautiful person :)
Of all of Ayumi Hamasaki's albums, this to me is the most poignant of them all, and has something that should please everybody.

「ANother Song」and 「Why...」are decent songs, but it is the other two songs, 「beloved」and 「progress」that are the real treats to listen to.

「beloved」is sung very well and has a nice orchestration to it, though there is one part of the song where the electric guitar sounds a bit out of place. However, Ayumi's vocalization more than makes up for that tiny distraction.

Where this album truly shines though is in the song 「progress」. This song above all others is worth the price of admission and then some.

In the first quarter of 「progress」Ayumi sings with a very low-pitched and sultry voice that communicates her emotions extremely well. In the second part of the first half of 「progress」Ayumi transitions to the more typical Japanese vocalization, but never sounds nasl or tinny. Ayumi's voice remains smooth and very pleasing while conveying her feelings superbly.

The second half of 「progress」is where most people who played 「Tales of Xillia」will begin to recognize the now familiar introduction theme.

Ayumi once again returns to a low key vocalization, but this time with a faster pace and a more upbeat tone. Five lines into the second half of 「progress」, Ayumi transitions to a very powerful and invigorating chorus that really gets your heart pounding.

Immediately following that masterful transition to a potent voice, a brief interlude is played in the form of an electric guitar, violin, and orchestra hit trio, followed by another high energy chorus by Ayumi.

Next is a immediate transition from the chorus into an unexpectedly soft piano and string background with Ayumi singing solo once again. One could almost forget that there is music in the background as Ayumi sings this part of the song, as she almost makes the listener feel as if she were singing 「a capella」(without music playing).

The final two parts of 「progress」are one last high energy chorus followed by the ending familiar to those that have played 「Tales of Xillia」, culminating in a very surprising climax by Ayumi in the form of a very enthusiastic vocal coda ending in an almost romantic transition to a soft piano epilogue, finished off with three soft notes to give the song a uniquely gentle finish.

I chose this version of the FIVE album instead of the Limited Edition because to me 「Ayu」is the product - the persona Ayumi has created for us, but I prefer to envision Ayumi herself singing instead. To me I see not 「Tales of Xillia」or 「Ayu」, but only Ayumi. I truly believe that to experience the songs on this album in the most appreciative way, one should imagine not a video game character or persona such as 「Ayu」singing, but instead to see only Ayumi.

Knowing what kind of person Ayumi truly is and imagining her singing 「progress」, I was in tears by the end of the song. To me that speaks volumes about Ayumi's true capability - the ability for her heart to make one feel her true emotions as if they were their own.

If you listen carefully, you can feel both the sorrow and resolution in Ayumi's voice in 「progress」. To sing with such beauty and evoke an emotional response in the listener is a very powerful and extremely rare gift.

It is a gift we should cherish for as long as we can, for it is rarely seen.
