A solid new beginning
Ghost in the Shell has a history of reboots. From the manga, to the theatrical films, to the television show. No two versions of Ghost in the Shell have been exactly alike. So each new version of Ghost in the Shell is always a bit of a gamble. What will they change? Will the characters I love become something that I hate?

Well I can't answer those questions for you, but what I can do is reassure you that this episode, the first of four OVA episodes, is very much a Ghost in the Shell and fans of the series will still find plenty to love while enjoying the new twist on things.

GitS: Arise focuses on the formation of Section 9. In fact in this episode, Section 9 doesn't even exist. We follow a slightly younger Motoko, and Aramaki as they investigate the death and political scandal of a military colonel.

A small note to fans, as the fuchikomas before them, the tachikomas have once again been replaced, in visual design and name, if not in personality. No worries though. They are still as adorable and/or annoying as ever.
