Amazing Simulation
This is by far an incredible experience in VR. You feel like you are in Japan right there in the action. Drive a train.. don't hit people.. it's more complex than it seems and even with 0 Japanese you eventually work it out. Learn the Kanji for OK and you'll be applying for a job with JR in no time

The first real sequel since 2004
I'm playing Densha de Go since the late 1990's and I love them for their gameplay as well for how "japanese" the games are. I've been travelling to Japan for over 20 years now, and everytime I play this game, it is a mini vacation with a tight atmosphere (the sounds, announcements and jingles used in th etrain and train stations, and the use of real life buildungs and landmarks) and gamplay that is a challenge and a form of relaxation all in one. Hard to explain, but I think every Densha de Go fan can relate. I own almost 2 dozen games from the Densha de Go universe (or the releated Train siumlator series for PS2, railfan for PS3) from PSone, Saturn, N64, Dreamcast and PS2/PS3 etc and boy, things have been tough since the mid 2000's for Densha de go fans. So I was totally hyped after I saw the news that there will be a new Densha de Go game for the Arcade and I played it many times in Japanese arcades in 2019. I always hoped they would make a PS4 conversion and luckily they did. I have played this game 40 hours on PS5 so far, just finished the story mode and just started the arcade mode.

PRO:

- finally a new Densha de Go for consoles since 2004 !!!
- nice grafics and detailled portrait of Tokyo
- refined and motiviating gameplay with a massive campaign mode, an arcade mode which also feels really different to the campagin mode, free ride options for less experienced players, a good balance for casual games and experts as well.
- there is now a lot to do and to be aware of while driving the train like switiching off the headlights when passing other trains, using the horn for workers, train fans, track workers and passengers coming too close to the tracks in train stations, different speed zones and speed spots with either a maximum oder minimal speed etc. It never gets boring
- braking speed and brake/acceleration intensitiy varies with type ot train, weather (rain/snow) and amount of passengers
- Different weather (sunshine, rain, snow) and time of day
- on PS5 fast loading times
- no bugs although there was no update / day one patch etc since release
- great new use of the analog sticks for breaking and acceleration
- nice details like driving cars and pedestrians in the streets, the latter ones are holding umbrellas when it rains, plants a moving in the wind, sun effects at dawn, planes in the sky, nicely modelled trains etc)

CONTRA

- basically so far (DLC in future?) only Yamanote line and only in counter clockwise direction ! (We also have 5 stations of the Chuo line up to Akihabara and a few other trains that use the same tracks as the Yamanote line like the Narita express, nice addition but still the same environment). In the arcade we already had the Osaka loop line and as a collector of previous Denhsa de go games I know the huge variety ranging from rural tracks through the mountrains and rice fields over Shinkansen up tram lines we once had...
- for Densa de go and Tokyo fanatics : no individual train stations jingles, obviously a licencing issue and I miss a few builidungs on the Tokyo skyline, since they focused on the builidungs close to the track. Example: In Nishi Shinjuku there are only the two skyscrapers closest to the station, but not no Tokyo Government Office Building etc
- small details could be better like when it snows and it is really dark and cloudy at 5 pm, there is no cars with their headlights on and no buildings and windows of buildings with lights in it
- no nightmode

VERDICT:
It is a fanatasic game that everybody who likes Densha de Go games can buy without even thinking about it for a second. Everbody else: watch a few videos on youtube and if you are somewhat interested - trust your feelings and buy this game. It is in a way a mix of simulation and games like Dance Dance Revolution and the like where oyu have to press the rights buttons at the right time. It is however certainly not perfect and you can't judge it like a AAA 30 million $ production - it is after all a niche game for a limited audience. Let's hope they sell enough copies in order to get sequels and/or DLC for more variety. But the game as it is, is really entertaining, motiviating and without bugs- unlike some other games these days that feel more like betaversions. The trophies are motivating and after having played it for 40 hours so far I still am motivated to play more. I would rate it 8/10 with the potential of a 9/10 if we get some DLC like Yamanote clockwise, Osaka loop line and maybe a night mode. I think all that is quite realistic, because they work on the Arcade machine constantly and bringt new content - and the Osaka loop line content already exists in the Arcade, it should be pretty easy for them to integrate it into the game. I think the developer will finish the Switch version first and then work on DLC...
