Hong Kong crime cinema with The Mobfathers, Trivisa and Robbery!

Gangster movie meets politics in Hong Kong's recent releases that mirror social anxieties and fear of an uncertain Future. Hong Kong is changing and no one knows that better than the directors behind the recent crime movies The Mobfathers, Trivisa and Robbery.

Herman Yau, Fire Lee and the triplet Au/Hui/Wong have their finger on the pulse of a city in transition. Be it a convenience store robbery that functions as a chamber piece about class, the story of three criminals towards the 1997 handover or an electoral shift in triad power dynamics, the allegory clearly points to Hong Kong’s waning glory after its change of sovereignty.

All three movies fell on fertile ground amongst an audience that fears being assimilated and losing their cultural identity.
If that is too much politics for you and you need a good dose of martial arts to clear your head, check out the special low price we have on SPL 2, one of the best movies that Tony Yaa got done recently.
