There are a large number of martial arts masters emerging between 1930s and 1940s and Ip Man is one of them. As Bruce Lees' master and the first to start teaching Wing Chun openly, Ip Man has led a turbulent life and the film looks into the challenges that he has faced during his youth.

From meeting and fighting fellow martial artists before the war broke out to fighting in life and death situations with Japanese officials under unfair circumstances, Ip never lost his cool and adhered to the moral teachings of his school.

Produced under the critical eyes of Ip Man's own descendants, and starring the action star Donnie Yen (Seven Swords, Hero), this film reeks of excitement, realistic but stylized fight scenes and famous stars.

Wing Chun, Ip Man: One of the Greatest Martial Art Movie ever Made
This isn't just about martial arts fighting an people beating each other, rather this is a very emotional and intellectual film about martial arts and philosophy.
The portray of Ip Man which was performed fantastically by Donnie Yen has not only showed the most different role he played compared to his old movies, but also shows a true martial arts master's intellect and skill. Wing Chun is right on in this film, you could see the physics, the philosophy and how it really distinguishes itself to other martial arts in the world, therefore its one of the best Martial arts films ever made until this day.
Donnie Yen has certainly done a fantastic job with Ip Man's role...this film changed me and I truly enjoyed watching Donnie's gentleness, sensitivity, and at some times humor in this film.

Classic Kung Fu Action !
If you're looking for a really good martial arts film then get this now. Donnie Yen gives a excellent performance as one of the most influential martial arts Masters of the 20th Century, and the bonus material also gives you an insight on the history of Wing Chun as well as the usual behind the scenes features.
Overall an excellent film and tribute to the man who had a certain Bruce Lee as one of his students.

A Must for Martial-Arts Fans
Definitely one of Donnie Yen's best films yet, Ip Man is based on the man who brought Wing Chun to global acclaim. Although a tad glorified, the rest of the movie more than makes up for it.

There have been tonnes of praise for the spectacular fight choreography and acting. The best judge for this movie would be yourself, so do yourself a favor and grab this DVD before it's too late! Watch it in full surround sound in the comfort of your home.

You won't regret it.

Critically acclaimed martial arts movie
I watched this in cinema last year and it was great. The fighting scenes draw you in along with the drama in the film. Bought this in order to watch it again...a must have movie for kung fu fans! For those who wish to hear the sound effects in its best quality, the film in the DVD uses Dolby Digital 6.1 Surround EX (Cantonese, Mandarin) and DTS ES 6.1 (Cantonese only).
