Korea’s Zombie Blockbuster Train to Busan Swarms out on DVD and BD!

Genre: Horror | Release date: Dec 21, 2016

Just when you thought the zombie genre can’t surprise you anymore, along comes a movie like Train to Busan, steaming in from South Korea. The film set a record in its home country as the first film of 2016 to break the record of over 10 million moviegoers, which is double the surprise considering it’s an R-rated horror movie.
The setting is as simple as it is resourceful: a divorced father has to accompany his daughter to spend her birthday with her mother. To do this, they need to take the train from Seoul to Busan. While they’re on the 453 km trip, a viral outbreak turns ever larger parts of the country into a horde of rabid zombies. While fighting for their survival on the train, the shrinking group of passengers fear that at the end of the ride, there might not be any birthday cake waiting!

As with Night of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Dead, the best zombie stories work in an enclosed environment that provides both shelter and claustrophobia. Create a social microcosm to observe, throw in some metaphors about class struggle a la Snowpiercer, move the story along at a break-neck speed and have the zombies thrash and swarm in really unsettling ways and – voila - you got yourself a smart and still fast paced thrill-ride of a movie.
