Item Description
Disney's Lilo & Stitch - Trouble in Paradise is the PS one contender, and it's apparent from the sample we've played that the game is skewed towards a younger audience. Set during the events of the movie, you take control of both Lilo and Stitch as they make their way through the streets, forests and beaches of Hawaii taking out a host of dangerous creatures and aliens with a series of easy-to-execute special attacks. The 3D platforming environments recreate the lush tropical scenery of the movie (or at least the scenery we've managed to glimpse in the trailer) and the characters and enemies certainly capture the film's overwhelming personality, especially the manic ball of destructive energy that is Stitch. Each level has a range of collectible items and power-ups, and eagle-eyed players should be able to spot a number of hidden clapboards that can be picked up to unlock exclusive film clips.
Disney's Stitch: Experiment 626 for PS2, however, is a completely different kettle of fish altogether. Set before the earthbound antics of the film (and hence before Experiment 626 earns his slightly catchier moniker), you control the blue critter exclusively as he collects DNA helixes for his creator, Jumba. As the game progress, 626's surprising obedience eventually gives way to his mischievous nature and he rebels against his supposed master in favour of wreaking some serious havoc; the eventual outcome of this is said to segue nicely into the opening part of the movie.
With a complex-yet-intuitive control system, Experiment 626 is aimed at older Disney fans (like us) who have fallen in love with Stitch's gibbering lunacy, but don't want to be seen putting a little girl through her paces. Consequently, dispatching enemies with a quick jump on the head is out, and blasting them to smithereens with a laser blast is in. We like. The levels are littered with destructible objects that occasionally contain concealed goodies, but if you're anything like us you'll spend most of your time blowing stuff up just because it triggers a satisfyingly maniacal cackle from the genetic misfit.
