Limited Edition PlayStation2™ consoles: SAKURA, AQUA & SILVER

In order to celebrate the sales of 50 million PlayStation2™ consoles worldwide (21.5 million units were sold to North America, 16 million to Europe and 12.5 million in Japan), Sony Japan will release another three limited edition PlayStation2™ consoles in Japan this month in the following colors:

SILVER: as thought in coordination with silver colored AV equipment
AQUA: designed in accordance with the color of the sea
SAKURA: a pink color which represents the spring

All 3 units are Japanese versions only and will only play back Japanese version discs as well as NTSC region 2 DVDs. Included in all three sets are (next to the machine itself): A colored Dual Shock 2 controller matching the color of the console, an AV cable as well as a manual (in Japanese language of course). Additionally Play-Asia.com is throwing in a free official Sony vertical stand, again matching the color of the PlayStation2™.

While Sony mentioned the production to be limited, they anticipate to sell a total of 500,000 units. The last year released Ocean Blue and Zen Black machines were limited to 250,000 units each. All 3 models are now available for preorders at US$ 299 each, release date is February 13th (Silver color) or February 20th respectively (Aqua and Sakura color).
