New Challengers Appear, an Alternate Adventure, and the Return of a Classic! New Pokemon Games Coming for the Nintendo Switch and 3DS!

Hey trainers! I'm sure you've all heard the news from the latest Pokemon Direct! Several new Pokemon games have been announced for both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS systems. The announcements have gained a HUGE response from the Pokemon community as you'd expect. If you haven't seen it yet, let's go over them below and get you up to speed!

Pokken Tournament DX
Bandai Namco Games | Nintendo Switch™ | Genre: Fighting
Expected to ship: Sep, 2017 Worldwide

Originally released for the Nintendo WiiU, Pokken Tournament was a surprise to many a fan of the series. For the first time ever players would see Pokemon duking it out but not in turn-based RPG fashion but in a straight up fighting game; from the makers of Tekken no less! While some found the mechanics overwhelming, especially if you've never played a fighting game before, Pokken proved popular among fans and is now being brought over to Nintendo's news console with a load of updates!

New features include the following:

  • Pokken anytime anywhere - As it's on the Switch you can play in TV mode, Handheld mode, or give a JoyCon to a fellow trainer for one-on-one battle in tabletop mode!
  • New fighters! - From the video, we can see several new fighters have been added to the roster. These include  Croagunk, Empoleon, Darkrai, Decidueye, and Scizor.
  • New Support Pokemon - New Pokemon like Litten and Popplio join in to lend a hand.
  • Team Battle Mode - Select a team of three Pokemon and battle it out, defeat all of your opponents Pokemon to win.
  • Group Match Mode - Find similarly skilled players online for fun and intense battles.
  • Daily Challenges - Complete a variety of different challenges each day.
  • Watch Battle Replays - Learn from the best by watching other player's replays or share your best matches with others online.
  • Jump Straight into Battle - All fighter Pokemon and Support Pokemon will be available from the start of the game.

With all these new features and characters Pokken Tournament DX for the Nintendo Switch looks to be a load of fun. So who are you going to main? (I'm still gonna go with Pikachu Libre!)

Expected to ship:
Nov, 2017 Worldwide

Also announced was sequels to Pokemon's 7th Generation of games with Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Much like with Gen 5's Pokemon Black and White sequels Black 2 and White 2, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will feature an alternate storyline that takes place in the world of Pokemon Sun and Moon's region of Alola. These games will feature Pokemon that didn't appear in the originals. The new forms of Solgaleo and Lunala, which look like they're fused with the Ultra Beast-like Pokemon Necrozma, are very reminiscent of the fusion of Black and White's Legendaries Kyurem, Reshiram, and Zekrom. Guess we'll have to see what's going on in Alola once the game's released.
