Play-Asia.com Gives Back To The Community
Work hard, play hard, give back harder

"Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference." - Kathy Calvin (Kathryn Bushkin Calvin is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the United Nations Foundation)

Since 2002, Play-Asia.com has become a leading independent online retailer of video games and related entertainment products for the global gaming community.

We pride ourselves on delivering outstanding customer service across a large variety of international games, digital codes, toys, lifestyle and electronics goods with genuine quality and a truly global fulfillment service.

Play-Asia operates globally to support its large customer base and naturally has a big presence in the Asia region. Besides our Asia HQ in Hong Kong and offices in Singapore and Japan, one of our largest and most important offices and customer operations center is located in Subic Bay in the Philippines.

As a company that is always striving for excellence and quality in everything that we do, we have made a huge difference to the gaming public who hungered for entertainment and freedom for their choice of games. But it is not every day that we are given the chance to take part in nation building by creating a difference starting first in the community that we operate in. But when we do, we do it with heart and pride.

On the 14th September Play-Asia.com, headed by the CEO Mr. Jan Neuhaeusser, took part in our corporate social responsibility for the community in the Philippines. We opened the very first Call Center Training in West Bajac Bajac--which is the very first BPO training center in the area and surrounding  Olongapo City. This is a joint project by Play-Asia.com and The Studer Trust under the project name "Sentrong Sanayang Teknikal Ng Kabataan" (Technical Training Center For The Youth).

Apart from the major donors, the event was attended by government officials, VIPs, media, and the recipient of the charity. Some of the notable names include Mr. Rolen Paulino (Olongapo City Mayor), Mr. Anthony Deldio (Chairman, West Bajac-Bajac), Atty. Andrew Bido (Regional Director, TESDA Region III), Mr. Thomas Burkhalter (Chairman, Studer Trust), Mr. Torben Overgaard (President, Overgaard Ltd.), Mr. Zedrick Avecilla (Director, Lighthouse Marina Hotel and Restaurant), and Ms. Ria Delor-Apas (General Manager, Play-Asia.com Philippines Office).

Ms. Apas gave a short statement on behalf of Play-Asia.com. She pointed out the hard work that has been accomplished by the project and the opportunity it will bring to the local community and growing regional economy. She reiterated that Philippines is the "BPO Capital Of The World." And to harness our strong standing in the competitive global market, the BPO Training Center will be a big help for less-fortunate Filipinos but with the unwavering drive to provide better career opportunities in the call center industry.

More importantly, Ms. Apas cemented Play-Asia.com's commitment to the community by saying:

But training without an application is never enough. With this, I am also happy to announce that the top performing students will have the chance for on-the-job training at Play-Asia.com's Customer Service Department and perhaps, later, maybe even be offered a full-time position in the company.

To date, there have already at least 80 enrollees in the first batch of the call center training program. There will be trainers who will teach the students. Also, employees of Play-Asia.com will also take some of their time during weekends to teach these students conversational English and share their tips of being gainfully employed in the industry.

Graduates of this program will not only get support from Play-Asia.com but also the government's mandate of providing NCII certification which will make them eligible for jobs anywhere they will choose to go. So long that there are a BPO job openings, they will be readily employed.

Some of the values that Play-Asia.com stand for are being genuine, trustworthy and caring. With the opening of the BPO Training Center in West Bajac-Bajac, Philippines, we do not just showcase these values, we put them into practice. Our social corporate responsibility policy demonstrates our commitment to making a difference in the local community and our way of giving back for the common good as a social enterprise.
