My favorite Pokemon series
This was the first game for Pokemon on the Gameboy Advance and to me, was the most fun and fast paced. The game has a lot to explore, but is not overwhelming like Pokemon Black or White versions. Having Johto and Kanto would have been nice, but to me, that would have been more like a bonus than a real requirement.

386 Pokemon to catch. Deoxys, Celebi, Mew, and Jirachi are not accessible normally. To get Deoxys, you need to get the Birth Island Pass on Emerald version or cheat. To get Celebi, you need to cheat. To get Mew, you need to visit South Island or cheat. To get Jirachi, you need the Jirachi disc for Gamecube or cheat. Since these Pokemon were all promo events, they are no longer available.

The region of Hoenn is a lot of fun and easy to find your way around. I liked the Pokemon added to this game. The whole deal with Regiice, Regirock, and Registeel was actually really cool. They are like Ancient Pokemon that you awaken and then catch. The story of Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza was really cool too. Pokemon Emerald version goes more in-depth though.

Fantastic story, great graphics, catchy music, and was overall a great nostalgia trip for me. It has been at least 9 years since I played this one in America. The Japanese brought back some memories for me. I played the English version for 188 hours and caught all 386 Pokemon. This game will also hook up to Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heartgold, and Soulsilver through GBA Transfer system. In order to transfer your team to Pokemon Black or White versions, you need to use the transfer machine on a Japanese Pokemon DS RPG game.

Make sure to get Pokemon Sapphire and Emerald versions too!

Super refined version of Pokémon
At the time of this games release I thought it couldn’t get any better than this. And to my surprise, that has pretty much held up, I’m not that big of a fan of the Diamond and pearl Pokémon games, the gameplay seems uneven in them, but they designed some excellent looking monsters in them. The gameplay in ruby and sapphire is still the most polished games in the series, say what you will about the monster design (and for the most part I agree that most of the new Pokémon in these versions didn’t really add a lot to the world) but the adventure is fantastic. Take a look at this game if you missed it the first time around, it’s a good time.

Pokemon does it again...
It's amazing how, even though the core of Pokemon doesn't change, each region is fun and new. Hoenn, the region in particular, seems to have troubles. Two conflicting teams, Team Aqua and Team Magma, have their own goals in Hoenn, and it involves a colored orb and a legendary Pokemon...

In Ruby version, your mission is to become a Pokemon master. Starting from a small town, you'll battle Gym Leaders, including your own father, in order to gain entry into the Pokemon league. However, you must do something else; Stop Team Magma from awakening Groudon, the Continent Pokemon!

Groudon weighs a ton, has rediculously high Attack and Defense, and is overall a cool Pokemon, but even the hot-headed Team Magma has their troubles, and by the end of the game, everything goes awry.

The game's overhauled battle system, introduction of abilities, natures, contests, and a re-done Effort Value system makes you Hoenn experience one of the best RPGs the GBA has to offer.

It falls a bit short in terms of replayability, though. After you beat Steven, Elite Four Champion, there's not much to do. Battling friends is a hoot, though, ecspecially in great, full-color 32-bit. And the game's compatible with Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, so you can transfer your monsters to Sinnoh once you're done.

Overall, if you're looking for a GBA RPG that's great for kids, Pokemon Ruby is a good start.

Old.
Old now. Best is PBR (Pokemon Battle Revolution) for Nintendo Wii!
