The film itself is excellent. It contains the full Japanese original as well as the English dub complete with the full uncut 10 minutes of the Origin of Mewtwo. A collectors item, but one major downfall; There is NO English subtitles for the Japanese languge!

Only the English dubs have Japanese & English subtitles! I bought this because I was convinced about the review here stating that it contained "Japanese with Subtitles", yet no such is found on the DVD after navigating for so long.

I could watch it as it is, but the original story is completely different to the dub, as well as an alternative soundtrack, which was the very reason I wanted it.

If you're a Pokémon fan & you can understand Japanese, then by all means this is perfect for you, BUT do not expect any English Subtitles for the original Japanese version...

Almost Excelent!
This DVD is brilliant for collectors like myself, and dedicated Pokémon fans (especially those of us who were around in the 90's when the craze started - big cheer for us!). It includes several versions of the first movie.
- Original Japanese
- English Dub
- Japanese with Subtitles
- English Dub with Subtitles

There are a few more but I haven't checked them out yet, as it was awkward to navigate the DVD with no idea how how to read Japanese (I found the English dub by comparing the word for "English" between a phrasebook and what was on the screen). Which is really the only downside to the DVD set. Not that its in Japanese (of course it would be, duh), but that the DVD is awkward to navigate. You can't just press play and use the Language buttons on your remote for subtitles and language tracks, you actually have to go through a menu to select the version you want to watch, which can be a real pain in the butt.
It has some quirky special features on it too (like a music video for a song on the English version).

The really great thing about this DVD, though, is the oppertunity to watch two major scenes that were cut from the English dub. These scenes are dubbed for the English version too, so you don't have to be a Japanese speaker to enjoy them. I was quite surprised to find Mewtwo's birth story fully dubbed, and its quite a treat! It certainly gives the character more depth.

So all in all... Awesome DVD! Buy it or be destroyed. :3
