Experience the adventures of a genius inventor robot named Rodney Copperbottom as he moves to the big city to work for the company founded by his childhood hero. Rodney, however, uncovers a villain's plot to take over the city and must foil it for the sake of robots everywhere.You play as both Rodney and Wonderbot, his diminutive hover-sidekick. Wonderbot's program includes cute tricks worthy of an Ewok, like the one where he shakes a pair of mariachis like a strolling musician on a cruise liner.Much of the game consists of getting a blueprint and then seeking out the requisite parts to create the item. Rodney's basic weapon, an oversized wrench, makes quick work of low-level enemies. Blueprints lead to more-powerful weapons, such as the gun-like Scrap Launcher. Collect nuts (the kind for bolts, not the kind that grow on a pecan tree) to purchase health and other upgrades.After a tutorial in Rodney's home burg of Rivet Town, it's time for mom and dad to cut the ol' apron strings and send their pride and joy off to the big city so he can show his inventions to Bigweld Industries. Once there, his dreams are dashed when he discovers a wicked plot that involves the disappearance of Mr. Bigweld.Robots glistens with bright, clean graphics, plenty of artfully composed cut-scenes and nice particle effects when bad robots fall apart. Even though these are robots roaming in a metallic world, the game feels all warm and fuzzy. Most of the adults sound like first-grade teachers. The lushly romantic score swells and swells, with plenty of happy turns from the woodwinds and brasses.
