Three Kingdoms 6
I have played all of the three kingdoms games up to Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX and am a huge fan of the series.

In case you don\'t know, three kingdoms is about China in the period between 200bc - 200ad and consists of three warring kingdoms trying to fight for control over the whole of China. To call this a historical simulation would be correct, but doesn\'t do justice to the fact that it\'s based on one of the greatest pieces of literature ever written in any country. Indeed one could call it the Chinese Iliad.

If you\'re not into the literature you will not like tihs game, or any strategy game related to it. Read the book and then play the game, and I guarantee you will not have a paralelled experience in gaming. The story is deep beyond measure, the characters beautifully portrayed with intriguing personalities, the parts of the story interweaving to make an excellent video game.

Of the games, VI is, it say here, the best of the series. The gameplay is top notch. The micromanagement stuff isn\'t over done. The music is great. The scene animations are excellent. But what\'s most important is enjoyability, and this game has it in spades. The other games, I feel, tend to discard the historicity of the series and it feels more like a generic strategy game. In VI, the depth is staggering and well worth your time.

VI does have a few problems which should be mentioned. It is without a doubt dated by today\'s standards and even when it was released it wasn\'t a technological achievement by any means. The graphics are underwhelming though adequate. The music is great: nice orchestral pieces which fit nicely with the game in a Chinese sort of way, never redundant or boring even after hours and hours. Officer loyalty is a major problem, the rate of decrease for officer loyalty is ridiculously fast. Also the system of communications with the emperor I feel is unpolished.

Despite these very minor flaws, it\'s a gem of a game and appeals to people who know the book. And since most people who know the book probably own this game already, I don\'t really know why I\'m writing this. Bottom line: if you like Three Kingdoms, buy this now.
