Great old rpg
It\'s PSII...it has remade graphics and a few changes here and there, it\'s dirt cheap.

If you liked the original game and want to see it done in better 2d then this is a must.

Phenomenal
I loved this game, and I find time to play for a few minutes at the end of the night, when I feel like a deep dungeon crawling grind. Although it is text heavy in some areas, the actual game play is quite nice. The lines are smooth and still look unique even to this day. Don\'t expect this game to be exactly like Phanta.2 . The original iteration of the game has it\'s own merit, and is included in the Ages as a bonus. If you don\'t speak fluent japanese, it\'s ok, plenty of good people have written beautiful translations and FAQ\'s. I recommend it highly. Very much like the original with an enhanced storyline.

One of my all time favourite!
How much time has passed since 1989, when this game hit the market. It was the main cause for me to buy a Genesis!
And once I found out that the Phantasy Star series was being re-published on the PS2, I indeed orderd a new PS2 !! Software sells hardware! Remember that, Sony! Don\'t be stupid to bann bitmap based games from the PS2 any longer. Phantasy Star Generation 2 (and Generation 1, of course) are worth being looked at to make people aware that the was a better Phantasy Star before the online version on Dreamcast, Cube and X-Box! For a better imagination what you might miss if you don\'t get this game:

New, but improved..?
As an avid fan of the original P-star 2 on the Megadrive and Genesis, I had to buy this game to see what sort of improvements were made, and I came away with mixed results.
The dungeons were what impressed me the most. I got my old P-star 2 maps to prepare myself only to find that all the maps have been redone and reworked! The programmers definitely spent their time here and it\'s nice. Gone are the unnecessarily confusing and mundane walk-throughs. While the dungeons are still challenging, the programmers made sure the difficulty is balanced and that even without a map, with a little memory and trial-and-error, you can find your way around.
The battle scenes are smoother now too. Characters fight with their own idividual style much moreso than before, and each weapon you use has a different effect. Add to that the fact that each character now has a \"super move\" that can be stored and used during a fight, and it\'s a great improvement.
Anime cut scenes help the mood of the story too, but being an artist myself, I didn\'t like the new and \"improved\" character images (the old ones were better).
Perhaps the only \"bad\" of this game would have to be that it is a repetitious game. True, that was what the old one was all about, but the gameplay while great for its time and now has come back with a major facelift, still shows its age. Taking 35hrs to barely finish a half of the game is definitely a value for your money but only if you\'re into the old-school type of RPG gameplay. And hey, as an added bonus, the old school P-star 2 is thrown in so a definite MUST for Phantasy star fans and folks who enjoy old-school RPGs!
