One for the shump fanatics
Monkey King is a niche shooter and really for gamers that love the genre. The gameplay itself isn't that remarkable, but it is competent in the tradition of horizontal shooters. What is unique is the game's "Journey West" theme where you take the role of Monkey flying across the various worlds on his cloud. The combat is challenging, and holding onto your 'powered' weapon is difficult, and death is quite easy, but the art style and heritage value of the game should be appreciated by fans. The tilt control is nice, but adds nothing to the gameplay. Try a shooter like Karous Wii for wiimote swinging shmup action.

For diehards shooter fans only.
I'd actually like to give it 2.5 stars. The game is mediocre at best and is only really recommended to diehard shooter fans like myself.
The game is made worse by the incredibly gimmicky addition of tilting the remote to speed up/slow down scrolling. It simply makes it more difficult to play with your hands in such an uncomfortable position.
If you are a 2D shooter fan starved for your poison, this distinctly average shooter is worth it at a budget price. Be warned though, if you are a fan of the original on the PC Engine, steer well clear! You just might cry.
