Item Description
Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish Jew, a celebrated composer and pianist, he played the last live music heard over Polish radio airwaves before Nazi artillery hit. During the brutal occupation, he eluded deportation and remained in the devastated Warsaw Ghetto. There, he struggled to stay alive even when cast away from those he loved. He would eventually reclaim his artistic gifts, and confront his fears, with ais from the unlikeliest source - a German officer who helped him hide in the final days of the war.

A Grueling, Yet Beautiful Film
Directed by Roman Polanski (who won an Oscar), The Pianist is set in WWII Poland. Adrian Brody (who also won an Oscar) plays the title role and he's excellent. The film has some truly unforgettable scenes. It is a stellar piece of work. The only thing keeping it from getting five stars is that, on the heels of other Holocaust movies, there are scenes that are simply too similar to others to have the same impact. Still, the film is beautiful and a must-see.

Intriguing story, superb acting!!
What you can see in it is not war, it's a life of a dedicated musician and with a man who truly appreciates his music. I totally love Thomas Kretschmann and Adrian Brody in this film!!
