Item Description

Debuting at the Tokyo Game Show 2013, Tokyo Twilight Ghosthunters wowed the crowd with it's novel approach towards role playing and it's extremely beautiful 2D portrait art.The latter is depicted as living breathing images akin to the semi static scenes of Vanilliaware's Dragon's Crown, but with more depth than one could imagine.

This supernatural Visual Novel with Romance elementsis seperated into two parts. In the first part,Players will be investigating the mysterious events at the Kurenai Academy High School in a visual novel format. While those familiar with this genre will realize that the choices made will effect the ultimate outcome of the game, the selection of choices in Tokyo Twilight Ghosthunters are substantial - players will choose from 5 different emotions and the 5 human senses to convey their desires.

The second part is the battle part, and it is just as unique and uncoventional as the mashup presented in this game. As ghost hunters, players will face the challenge of setting traps on a board like grid with focus on strategy, intuition and risk. There are also many exciting visual effects that signify success and failure as to keep things fresh.

Originally fromArc System Works, ASKYS has brought this game westward, and by featuring high grade Japanese talent - Final Fantasy's Nobuo Uematsu composes the music - Tokyo Twilight Ghosthuntersis indeed atitlefor those who enjoy cerebral gaming as well as unique visual novels.

Great VN with nice visual + SRPG battle elements
This is an interesting visual novel. The art style is great and the story can be described as something like a Ghost Busters J-drama, it focuses more on the story of the characters and less on the 'horror' part (*this is not a horror game at all)

It's funny the info on the game's wiki said how the so-called "Hardcore" Gamer magazine complained about the lack of explanation or tutorial on how the 'reaction' system of this game works. You kinda learn it easily after (no more than) 5 tries. (Yes, hardcore gamers do need 30 mins tutorial at the beginning of every games lol)

The battle is a blast. I don't know how to call it, a simultaneous turn-based system? It's something similar to those system you would find on games such as Vandal Hearts II where you and the enemies both make decisions at the beginning of the turn and when all choice had been made you proceed to the battle phase where your characters and enemies move and perform designated actions at the same time. Playstation Lifestyle said the battle is luck-based, I guess the reviewer didn't grasp how you have to take everything into consideration before making your moves unlike the usual turn-based games where you see which tile your enemies had landed or what actions they performed before making your next moves. (It's like playing chess where both players have to make their moves at the same time every turn)

I'd recommend for anyone into Visual Novels as well as those who'd like some challenging battles in their RPGs

Average game
Lacking in many areas, graphics aside I wouldn't call this a good game in any definition of the word. But seeing as its now at a discount price, it's worth picking up for $20-25.
