A weird old school platform with a
Umihara Kawase BaZooKa! reminds me a weird mix of Bubble Bobble, Parasol Stars and Pang. Graphically is cute, but unimpressive. At first controls are a bit confusing and source of a bit of frustration. I tried the basic controls scheme and I don't feel the need of a much more complex scheme. Stages are full of weird creatures and your goal is to hook them with the fishing lure and use them as projectiles to strike the other monsters. Enemies have different pattern, weak point and vulnerable to different attack. So gameplay needs a "strategic" approach.
Every defeated monster drops a coin and you have to collect a specific coin target to end each stage.
Gameplay is addictive if you like the genre. The challenge increases at Boss battles at the end of each of the 4 Worlds. Versus and Co-op are available too, but the last one can be frustrating because players can strike each others with "friendly fire". Umihara Kawase BaZooKa! is not a triple A game for its values, but under 20 USD is a good game for the Switch. One screen stages are perfect for its portability.
