Strong Action-RPG
I never played the original Valkyrie Profile on the Playstation, but I did play Valkyrie Profile 2. I enjoyed enough that I thought I would try the remake of the original. The game was mostly what I was expected, a similar game to the sequel and that's not a bad thing. I found the game to be enjoyable enough and it kept my interest.

The gameplay is mostly the same. You travel around the levels in a 2D fashion, where you can fight enemies or freeze them and use them as blocks in puzzles. Battles are similar but in this game you don't really have the ability to move around, but you do control all your party members at once like in the sequel. Each button corresponds to a party member and during your turn, you press each button to have that character attack. Chaining them together results in combos. Admittedly I am a bit biased and was too used to the sequel to think of this battle system as fun and frantic as the other. Regardless, it is still highly enjoyable.

The sound quality in this game is excellent. The music is done by none other than Sakuraba Motoi and there are some highly enjoyable battle themes in this game. The character voices and shouts during the battle are also nicely done and really add to each battle.

Overall, while I admit that the sequel may have biased my perception of this game, I still found it to be very enjoyable. The gameplay is simpler, but still very fun. And the sound is highly enjoyable. This game is definitely worth a try.

This game is outstanding
I don't get why this game did not sell well, even though it's so good.
