PlayStation®4 [Action Adventure]

The Assassin's Creed franchise has been a video game icon for some years now, and while it has had its ups and downs Assassin's Creed has always been an entertaining franchise to say the least. Taking place during the French Revolution you'll be joining a new assassin, Arno Dorian, as he fights our familiar foes, The Templar, amidst a politically torn 18th century France.

As is expected, Ubisoft have built a beautifully detailed world that should capture the intensity of the French Revolution - and if getting lost in the streets of an entirely navigable Paris rendered at a 1:1 ratio isn't enough, maybe massive rioting crowds will bring forth your inner revolutionist!

But let's be honest, the Assassin's Creed franchise has never been truly lacking when it comes to world creation, it has been the combat holding it back. Unity seemingly solves this issue allowing your assassin to properly deal with more than one enemy at a time, with groups of enemies actually attacking as a group (not a congo line to their death). The combat has been made purposely harder, requiring you to respond to various attack types, as well as introducing the parry mechanic. The more difficult combat will force emphasis onto the new stealth mechanics, fighting when you are at the advantage, much like a true assassin.

Ubisoft describes Unity as a "shared experience", meaning that the lines between single and multiplayer are largely blurred. The story will follow the protagonist Arno, with 2/3 of the missions being single player, but also includes 'Brotherhood Missions' where up to 4 assassins can be found tearing it up together.

Xbox ONE™ [Action Adventure]

For the first time in Far Cry – the exotic local of Nepal, specifically the Himalayan mountains, will be the backdrop in Far Cry 4.

Introducing Ajay Ghale as the first ever Nepalese protagonist, the open world nature of Far Cry now sees new horizons.

Fans of the Far Cry series will be pleased to know that the developers have every intent in making 4 a new experience, especially when compared to 3. Where as in Far Cry 3, character freedom compromised time sensitive situations ending in loss of immersion, Far Cry 4 now promises a tighter balance between exploration and mandatory story based events.

As well, to add to this, there is less protagonist voice overs; there is also an addition of Tarantino-esque dark humor bringing an new factor of enjoyment.

While the sound standard gun combat with many weapons are still there, one of the more exciting features is the weaponziation of local animals. Ride and elephant into the fray and overthrow foes in their vehicles! Shoot tactical beehives! Manipulate Tigers into mauling foes!

All the previous mechanics return as well, from stealth to hang gliding to exploring secrets and mysterious areas; lighting up individual blades of grass with fire makes a return too. If all this sound interesting, the icing on the cake is the co-op multiplayer, made even sweeter by letting a friend play online even if they don't have a copy themselves!

PlayStation®3 [Action Adventure]

In this third person RPG action-adventure game set in the dark land of Mordor, comes a story of mystery and vengeance. Talion, a man that has lost everything, is resurrected from the dead after being possessed by the powerful Wraith, and with this, seeks revenge against those who killed his family.

Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor offers players engaging combat and quests that compliment the open world, allowing players to discover its mysteries for themselves. The war that unfolds in the battlefields of Mordor allow players to achieve a dynamic range of skills and abilities as they rise through the ranks, defeat iconic LotR enemies, and overcome tactical challenges.

A newly developed 'Nemesis System' creates a refreshing way for players and non-player characters to interact. Every encounter is unique and relies on your relationship with the individual as well as their own set of skills, ranks and memories. Sow dissent amongst the orc legion or simply dispose of faction leaders in your quest to keep the darkness at bay. Encounters vary with context, making no two play-throughs identical.

As Talion struggles with his two personas as a Ranger and a Wraith, players are able to fuel both aspects and the range of abilities they provide. Dominate your enemies with your Wraith Powers or orchestrate and execute your vengeance through brutal melee, ruthless stealth, and intuitive ranged combat.

Whenever we hear "movie tie-in" most gamers start to become very skeptical - and they have every reason to be. However TT Games, the developer of The LEGO Movie Video Game, has a great track-record when it comes to LEGO games and has earned the trust of many LEGO fans around the world.

TT Games have continued the trend of gameplay from previous LEGO titles and The LEGO Movie Video Game is a worthy title to add to any LEGO gamer's collection. If you are unfamiliar with previous LEGO titles the game puts players in control of various characters from the movie, making use of various LEGO pieces to make their way through levels.

What will change is that for the first time in the series, environments will be completely made out of LEGO blocks and pieces - as well as adding the 'Builder' character type, and a bit of gameplay depth, to the franchise. There will be two types of builders: Regular Builders who require instruction pages (obtained throughout levels) to construct objects. Using the collected pages, players follow the instructions to build objects with specific pieces. Master Builders have the ability to grab LEGO pieces from the environment and use them to create something entirely new!

The 8th installment of Dynasty Warriors brings the player all the hack and slash action we've grown to love, along with expansions on gameplay and graphics. Features from previous installments will be returning, such as all the previous modes as well as the multiple weapon types, but also includes many expansions on the existing concepts.

Story Mode will be a lot more open, giving the player the decision as to how they want to progress through the game, moving away from the pre-set paths of previous games, as well as making multiple characters available for each stage. The biggest feature of Story Mode is definitely the addition of co-operative play, which can be played both on and offline.

Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends is a standalone expansion to Dynasty Warriors 8. This includes new episodes focusing on Lu Bu and an addition of 5 new characters for a total of 82 playable warriors. As well, Xtreme Legends expands with hypothetical scenarios that change plot-lines of the Three Kingdoms romance; Ambition Mode and the Challenge mode has been tweaked for better gameplay. Finally, Free mode now has an "Ultimate" difficultly level.
