description

Cute juxtaposed with the uncertainty brought by darkness: Nippon Ichi Software brings us Yomawari, the story of a young girl looking for her missing sister and dog in an eerie, nighttime town.

When the unnamed young girl loses her pet dog her older sister goes into the night in search of him. But when neither return home it is up to our young protagonist to venture into the once-familiar town, now shrouded by the darkness of night.

The darkness brought by the night is a crucial gameplay mechanic as it hides everything worth finding and exploring - including your sister and dog. With the use of her flashlight the young girl can uncover the secrets hidden by the night, and even enter parts of the town only open at night.

Your sister is not the only thing hidden by the night, there are strange 'terrors' lurking. On the dark streets, black figures stand still under the roadside street lights, or are they behind you? If you hit them with your light, you might just see their true colors, but do you really want to...?

Solid survival horror with a twistedly cute art style
Yomawari is a fun survival horror game where the emphasis is on exploration, gathering collectibles, managing the cooldown of your Run "power" (to escape past monsters), and trying to figure out what the hell happened to your dog and older sister. You don't *need* an understanding of Japanese to play through this but you are going to get so much more out of the experience if you can read Japanese; even a basic understanding of Hiragana (and dictionary/internet for the words you don't understand) will be of huge help since there is no Kanji to worry about.

Atmospheric and fun, an understanding of Japanese would be a plus here but you can still enjoy this title without.
