We Happy Few Not Banned in Australia Anymore for PS4, XONE and PC
We Happy Few
PlayStation 4™, Xbox One™ & PC – US & EU
Australian gamers out there, we have great news for you. We Happy Few is coming to your region. But this time with R18+ rating. But that’s okay, right? At least you will have the chance to play this game on your continent.
Initially, the Australian Classification Board refused to give We Happy Few a rating. It argued that this game depicts the use of violence and drugs. Because of this, the game was banned totally in the country. Take a look on the full statement of the Australian Classification Board on We Happy Few below.
The computer game is classified RC in accordance with the National Classification Code, Computer Games Table, 1. (a) as computer games that “depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified.” – via Australian Classification Board
However, there is a change in the decision. The ACB decided to give the game an R18+ rating. This was confirmed by the official statement from the Australian Classification Board. The game publisher, Compulsion Games, wrote their statement on a blog. Take a look at the full statement below.
After considering our appeal to get We Happy Few reviewed for classification, the Australian Classification Review Board has decided to allow the release of We Happy Few in Australia!
We went to a great deal of effort to get this decision overturned. We Happy Few will be rated R18+ in Australia.
We are extremely pleased with the decision of the board and excited that our Australian fans and new players will be able to experience We Happy Few without modification.
We want to thank everybody who got involved in the discussion, contacted the board and sent us countless messages of support. Your involvement made a huge difference. – via Compulsion Games
