Known for their striking full-body tattoos and severed fingertips, and made famous worldwide by Takeshi Kitano’s movies, the Yakuza in one of the most powerful crime syndicate both in Japan and abroad.
The etymology of the word “yakuza” comes from an old card game called Oicho-Kabu which is similar to Baccarat. The goal of it is to reach 9 points using hanafuda cards, but if the player has the three cards 8-9-3 (ya-ku-sa), the sum 20 is valued 0 points, and this means certain defeat for him. Nowadays there are four main families who manage several hundreds of minor affiliated clans: Yamaguchi-Gumi; Sumiyoshi-Kai; Inagawa-Kai; and Aizukotetsu-Kai.
Considered in Japan as semi-legal business companies, they work also as a parallel police force to repress crime, and in case of disasters, they act also as rescue and relief teams for the people. Anyway, the massive use of the violence as intimidation tool cause the fall of their public acceptance.
During the years many media have portrayed the rituals and the lifestyle of the Japanese Mafia, but without any doubt, one of the most renowned series is Yakuza (or Ryū ga Gotoku) from Sega. Created in 2005 by Toshihiro Nagoshi, and written by the famous Japanese novelist Hase Seishū, this video game series follow the adventures of Kazuma Kiryu (a.k.a. The Dragon of Dōjima), the most famous member of the Tojo Clan. Along six chapters, Yakuza became a commercial and critical success with more than 10 million copies sold worldwide.

So, to let discover it to the new generations, Sega has released the Kiwami episodes which are the HD remakes for PS4 of the first installments originally released on PlayStation 2. Prepare yourself to enter once more into the violent Japanese criminal underworld with Yakuza Kiwami 2!

After the success of the first remake, the new one will arrive on August 28^th exclusively on PS4. Set between Kamurochō and Osaka, the story of Yakuza Kiwami 2 starts in the early 1980s. When Yukio Terada, the 5^th chairman of Tojo Clan, has been killed by the rival Omi Alliance, Kazuma is called back to investigate upon it. Recruiting his former brother in arms Daigo Dojima; this dynamic duo is called to travel to Kansai to settle a score with them and at the same time a new brutal world between the Yakuza and the Geondal (the Korean mafia).
In Yakuza Kiwami 2 for PS4, you’ll wander through the back alleys of Japan’s underworld delighting 16 complexes, cinematic chapters. Each one is filled with hard-boiled action; endless conflicts; and surprising plot twists that will immerse you in a dark world where only the strongest will survive.

Improved from the roots, Yakuza Kiwami 2 exploit the powerful Dragon Engine and feature dozens of mini-games including the ultra-faithful arcade ports of Virtual-On, and of the very unique Toylets!
In addition, you can play the new quest of the “Mad Dog of Shimano”; entitled “The Truth of Goro Majima”. In this exclusive scenario, you’ll learn how Goro left the Tojo Clan to establish the legitimate enterprise, “Majima Construction” which made him a very rich man.

Press start, and walk in the shoes of the 4th Chairman of the Tojo Clan. You know, Kazuma is a man of compassion and integrity, for those who deserve such kindness.
