Born by the combination of the verb shinobu (忍ぶ- to endure) and the noun mono (者- person); the word ninja ( 忍者) indicates a specific type of warriors which was expert in unconventional battle techniques and espionage.
Particularly active during the turbulent Sengoku Era (1467 – 1568) these secret agents normally accomplished all those dirty jobs who were reputed dishonorable for a samurai.
