Recently, Dragon Quest Development Team conducted a special DQXI interview to talk everything about Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Dragon Quest XI director Takeshi Uchikawa and producer Hokuto Okamoto stars in Part 1 of this special interview, where they answered #DragonQuestions from fans all over the world.

The highlight of this interview is most probably the most awaited update for the Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest XI. Although the team answered that question, it is quite not a good news for those who are looking forward to playing the game on the latest Nintendo handheld console. And from the sounds of it, the release of the JRPG on the Nintendo Switch will still take a while.

Director Takeshi Uchikawa and producer Hokuto Okamoto state that the Nintendo Switch version of the game is still in the midst of development, including the Japanese version.

“In working on the title, we expect the development to still take quite some time. Therefore, we did our best to get the PS4 and PC versions in everyone’s hands as early as possible counting from its release in Japan, so we hope everyone enjoys Dragon Quest XI on PS4 and PC first.”

– Producer Okamoto

The producer followed what made them decide to skip the Nintendo 3DS version. See his explanation below.

Next, for the Nintendo 3DS version, the PS4 and PC versions, currently announced for release, and the Nintendo 3DS version differ quite a bit when it comes to the overall construction of the game. In considering the release of the 3DS version, along with the PS4 and PC versions, in the West, it, unfortunately, didn’t meet the conditions needed from a business perspective, and we had to give up on the 3DS release.

Based on his statement, the Nintendo 3DS version wasn’t successful to meet the conditions for the supposed platform, that leads the development team to release the game on the PS4 and PC alone.
