The survival horror action role-playing game, Dead Island 2, has been officially announced in 2014 as a sequel to the 2011 video game, Dead Island, during E3. The game was originally being developed by Yager Development and published by Deep Silver. The two companies even shared a “Sunshine & Slaughter” gameplay trailer for the game during E3 2014, which you can find below.

However, in 2015, publisher Deep Silver confirmed that it had dropped Yager as the developer of Dead Island 2. And in 2016, Deep Silver revealed that a new company will take over the project of Dead Island 2, and it is none other than, Sumo Digital.

But since then, no news has been heard about Dead Island 2. With this in mind, speculations from various personalities all around the globe went afloat assuming that Dead Island 2 is no longer in development.

Nevertheless, back in 2017, Eurogamer had a chance to sit down with Deep Silver and talk about Dead Island 2. Fortunately, the publisher did confirm that Dead Island 2 is still in development. You can see the publisher’s statement below.

“Dead Island 2 is in development at Sumo Digital, and we are excited by the progress the team are making with Deep Silver’s most successful IP. When we are ready to share more information, we will.”

Furthermore, Dead Island official Twitter Account kept on answering folks that Dead Island 2 is still in development and will share more information when they are ready. You can check one Twitter thread below.

Dead Island 2 was originally slated for 2015 release date but was pushed back to 2016 due to the transition of Yager to Sumo Digital development. However, fans are waiting until now if when will Dead Island 2 will come to life. As of the time of writing, the official website of Sumo Digital says that the release date of Dead Island 2 is still to be announced.
