Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story

In just a few days, publisher Spike Chunsoft and developer Acquire’s action RPG, Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story will arrive on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. And before the game’s full release, the developer and publisher make sure that they feed the players the right amount of information about the game. Recently, a bunch of new details featuring the game’s bodyguards, accessories, and costumes are revealed. You can check it all out below via Gematsu.

Bodyguard

The Kurou Family’s shop on the Hill of Six Bones offers extra assistance that can help you in the game. In their shop, you can pay a contract fee to hire a bodyguard that will serve as your aid in your adventure to the other world that is called Jikai.

Both the player and the bodyguards have a “Dan” ranking that shows their level. As soon as both of them levels up, their HP will be fully replenished. The only difference between the Dan ranking of the player and the bodyguard is that the player’s Dan ranking will reset upon its return to the real world while the bodyguard’s Dan will be carried over.

And if your bodyguard’s HP dropped down to zero during your adventure in Jikai, you can spend an extra contract fee to revive him and fully recover his HP. Please note as well that some bodyguards will be having some special requests that you have to fulfill before you can hire them.

You may encounter several dedicated events in the game as a result of the special requests from bodyguards. Watch your bodyguard companions grow in shape and ability in line with their story.

Customization

Play with your character’s appearance as you mix and match the best accessories and outfits for them! Go to Akadama Clan’s shop on the Hill of Six Bones to purchase your preferred accessories and outfits for your character. You can design your accessories in the game’s equipment field on the menu screen. Meanwhile, you need to access the closet at the smithy for you to change outfits. 

Accessories

Enjoy and choose from more than 100 accessories featured in the game. Plus, take note that some of the accessories have support effects. Feel free to use five accessories at the same time with multiple support effects active at once. However, please note that your accessories will be lost if you die in Jikai. 

Outfits

You can also check out some outfits inspired by the earlier entries in the Way of the Samurai franchise.

• Run the sword blacksmith by manipulating the three influences based around the mountain pass. Make money, pay back the debt, and save Doujima’s daughter
• There is a total of nine stances depend on what weapon you have equipped. And each stance has special effects. For example, the “middle guard stance” decreases damage taken from the enemy, while the “side stance” increases your critical chances
• Katana Time – By collecting “orbs” from the enemies inside the dungeon will charge your “Orb Gauge” allowing you to activate “Katana Time”. When Katana Time is activated your health bar won’t damage, weapon durability, increased movement speed, and no knock-back from the enemy
• Kiwami – By evading or blocking the enemy’s attack to create an opening and then attack, you can unleash a powerful attack called “Kiwami”. If there are still enemy nearby you can perform “Consecutive Kiwami” attack at the right timing
