Once upon a time, there is a girl called Annie, she is so lazy and unruly that her parents have lost all hope in her. However, one day, Annie's grandfather, a famed alchemist, came up with a good idea. He sent her to an island and commanded her to develop it into a resort site.

At first, the lazy girl cannot be bothered about her grandfather's request, but after having a look at the tasks involved and the chance to marry the prince, Annie decides to work hard, for once in her life, as she knew that by becoming a princess, she would never have to work again.

Work hard for the sake of a leisurely life and develop your own resort. You have to battle monsters in the area to collect materials for alchemy, enlist the help of people to manage your resort and enter contests to gain the title of the master to marry the prince.

Old school with improvements
Annie is the second in a trio of DS Atelier games. All three games have similar styles to the original Atelier games: Marie, Ellie and Lillie. Of the those, Annie is closest to Lillie. In Lillie, a young (slightly naive) alchemist arrives at a new town with the goal of developing a new college. In this game, a young (very naive) alchemist-in-training arrives at a new town to develop a resort.

In terms of game play, the majority of the game is devoted to quest. Pick one, go into the field to collect ingredients and the use alchemy to complete the quest. But the story itself is about resort development and management. Completing the competition quests raises funds, which allows you to construct hotels and shops, which you have to improve by completing more quests.

Balance-wise, there seems to something of a disproportion between the income of your (default) shop and the other income streams. In both of my plays, my default shop was responsible for two-thirds of my income, even though there was at least 4 other shops. So there is definite disparity between effort and benefit.

Nonetheless, its hard to fault this game. Maybe the graphics could have been improved (as they did in Lina), and the flavoring mechanic could have been better thought out. But you can't go wrong with buying this game. There's lots to keep you interested, and the characters are (relatively) well fleshed out. Highly recommened.

old atelier style is back!
remember the marie, ellie, lilie's style of alchemy? well, if not, you'll find out. the music reminds me a lot of atelier marie&ellie and the game system is changed a lot from atelier lise to make it easy for the new comers. try the game and love it
