description

STAR OCEAN, the epic, sci-fi RPG saga that takes players to the stars and beyond, makes its triumphant return with its forthcoming fifth installment in the series. The title is developed by tri-Ace, the celebrated studio behind each of the previous iterations, with character designs by akiman (Akira Yasuda).

At this point in history, between the second and third games in the series, the Pangalactic Federation is nearing the fulfilment of its mission: Peace and order throughout the galaxy. However, the embers of conflict begin to stir once more on the planet of Faykreed, 6,000 light years from Earth, as a new story begins in the ocean of stars.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness (Limited Edition) includes:

- Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness game
- Steelbook

Big Disappointment
Pros:
-Gorgeous art
-Good music
-Seamless combat transitions and full-party battles are unique and interesting (despite minor problems)

Cons:
-Story is shallow and incredibly short (~20hrs or less). Moments that should be emotional fall totally flat due to failed execution.
-Lovely as the world is, there's barely any of it to actually explore. There are a whopping 4 towns, 8 outdoor zones, and 8 dungeons. Expect a LOT of backtracking, even for how short the game is.
-You never visit any other planets, and you NEVER SEE SPACE (static 2D starscape with nothing happening doesn't count). "Space Battles" involve awkward 10 minute scenes of people yelling at each-other on the bridge. You don't get to see other ships, or battle FX, or anything.
-Almost all cutscenes have no camera work. You are expected to be your own camera-person, which is exhausting and plays a big part in killing the impact of important scenes.
-Anne is the only character who's at all interesting. Everyone else is a walking, talking trope.

After how much I enjoyed SO4, I really wanted to like this game as well. But it just felt flimsy and cheap, like they were in a hurry to get a big-ticket JRPG out for the PS4 to push sales.

An okay game
not the greatest JRPG from a great series, but still enjoyable. One of the main complain that many have with it is that is that the game is not as long as they thought it would be when compared to the previous titles

This is the end of the series.
Nothing even remotely decent can be found in this game except for maybe graphics and BGM. Story is on par with run-of-the-mill cliched anime series, three-way battle system lacks depth and becomes a buttonmashy skill spam fest after the first couple hours of walkthrough. Quests are your typical "bring X amount of items or kill X amount of enemies" with no substance at all. Private actions are nothing special for the most part. Item creation offers no variabilty at all - just a simple list of stuff you can synthesize. The overall scope is extremely small with very few locations and dungeons sprinkled with palette swapped mobs. Anne is probably the only redeeming point this clustercluck of a game has.

Really good, but could have been great.
I had a lot of fun with this game. It filled the JRPG void I had in my heart after Tales of Zestiria ripping that part of my heart out. The battle system was good, but I didn't feel it was as fast-paced as Last Hope. There's a good amount of challenge sprinkled throughout and a ton of side-quests, as usual. All of the moves were ripped from other Star Ocean games, but they're still fun to combo with. This game won't light the world on fire, but it is a good entry to the franchise.

Take a good look Tales: if it ain't broke, don't re-invent the wheel. Just makes minor adjustments.
