Back in April 2018, during the Sega Fest in Japan, Sega took the opportunity to reveal its own miniature of the legendary 16-bit Genesis, or most commonly known as Mega Drive in the rest of the world. This is also to commemorate the console’s upcoming 30th anniversary. According to the video game developer & publisher, this upcoming “Sega Mega Drive Mini & Genesis Mini,” will be released first in Japan, followed by the US and other regions in 2018. However, after five months, Sega announced that they have to push back the release date of its mini console to 2019 and is now aiming for a global worldwide release in September.

Japan and Europe will receive the Mega Drive Mini while the Sega Genesis Mini will hit North America.

What’s in store for us with Sega’s new miniature consoles?

“Sega’s fifth home video game console was born in 1988. It has a popular series of Sonic, Shining series, Phantasy Star and Puyo. In commemoration of about 30 years from the released of it, the new game machine that SEGA passes that has memories of that time and reproduced it in the palm size. The “Mega Drive Mini” from action to shooting, puzzles, RPG, and simulation, you can enjoy plenty of nostalgic masterpiece titles in history.”

In addition, the consoles will include 40 games with 10 of those already revealed, while the remaining 30 will be unveiled soon. Wired control pads, power and HDMI cables and more will also be included.
