Admittedly can't judge the plot
but I do have to say, the gameplay is pretty great. I'm a big fan of the series since it first came to the US. Unlike some other veterans, I really enjoyed Awakening. Fates is similar enough to still appeal to those new to the series, but you can definitely see the changes made in gameplay to appeal to older fans of the series. It's great and I can't wait for the English versions as well.

Decisions decisions
I have played previous entries of the Fire Emblem series, but have never completed the main scenarios even once. For the older titles, I get bored midway through.

I tried Awakening, but got tired of the massive amount of side quests and things to do, and ended up not finishing the main story.

Fire Emblem Fates is the first Fire Emblem game I have thoroughly enjoyed from the start to end. I personally felt that the story is one of the high points of the game. In terms of character relationship and interactions.

The moment I completed Conquest, I couldn't resist but to start up Birthright immediately, just so I can play as the other charming characters and see how different the story would turn out.

I got even more emotionally attached to the characters from Fates when I started the other storyline, because it hurts alot more when you are called "traitor" by the Conquest Family which I had fought alongside with for the past 30 hours of their storyline.

Well done, Intelligent Systems and Nintendo.

For people complaining about them releasing multiple versions and asking for more money. Its your loss. Each version is a full game and story experience by itself. The maps and battles and objectives are also very different. But alas, haters gonna hate.

For Fire Emblem fans, I believe you are going to love Fates.

The Biggest and Best Fire Emblem Game out There!
Honestly, even if you aren't particularly involved in the Fire Emblem series, FEif is an excellent strategy RPG fit for anyone interested.

For starters, story seems to be somewhat of an important aspect for most RPG, and FEif is no exception; in fact, it has the most compelling story our of all the Fire Emblem games, even beating our Awakening, the previous crown champion. I won't reveal any spoilers, but it most definitely is a complex story-line of excellent and tragic events. There are also plenty of characters to play with, each having their own personality and strengths; the Royal families in particular have some really deep characters.

Gameplay is of your typical Fire Emblem, building off of Awakening's introduction of "doubling," albeit the mechanic has been nerfed to increase difficultly. Essentially, "doubling" has been split into two different mechanics: "guard-stance" and "attack-stance." It's a little hard to explain, so I won't go too in-depth; simply put, it actually makes the game feel even more strategic than before, which is good for a strategy RPG. The game also includes a personal base of operations known as "My Castle," an area of the game that is fully customize-able by the player. You can even travel to other players' Castles; hell, if you want to, you can fight their teams! Neat, isn't it?

Finally, let's talk about the soundtrack, a somewhat overlooked aspect of any game, but arguably very important; it's one of those things that really add to the atmosphere of any game. So, what's the music in FEif like? My god...it's amazing! What's really interesting is that both main routes (Nohr and Hoshido) have their own share of tracks. Almost all the tracks are orchestral and are expertly played by the orchestra. Oh, and let's not forget about the main theme of this particular game. No, I don't mean the "actual" main theme of the Fire Emblem series (which might be to the dismay of some fans), but I mean the theme sung by Aqua throughout the entire game. It's a real beautiful song, one that I would listen to over and over again.

Really, I expected no less from Intelligent Systems: this was a very worthy follow up to Awakening. Definitely a recommendation from me.
