PS5 consoles can store compatible PS4 and PS5 games on USB drives that support SuperSpeed USB*. That means you can save space on the internal Ultra-High Speed SSD, and save time by reinstalling PS5 games from the external USB drive, instead of redownloading them or installing them from a disc.

When you’re ready to play a PS5 game that’s on an external USB drive, simply transfer the game back to the internal SSD via the Options Menu within the Library. You can play PS4 games directly from an external USB drive, or from the internal SSD.

Additionally, PS4 consoles can store and play PS4 games directly from an external USB drive.
