Item Description

Idol Manager is a business sim about conquering the entertainment industry using any means you deem necessary.

You take on the role of manager at a small (but growing!) talent agency. As you cultivate and train the newest generation of young pop stars, you'll have to decide who to hire and who to fire, who gets promoted when things go well and who gets reprimanded when things get sour. The personal lives of these young celebrities are a part of your business, and the life of a pop star isn't always a happy one. Their crowning personal achievements can be your greatest commercial successes, but their emotional meltdowns and PR nightmares can spell financial disaster for your company.

It's not just the idols you have to worry about. The world is full of gossip magazines, super fans, and rival groups, all thirsty for a scoop on the latest scandal. There are a lot of people who want to tear you down and are willing to play dirty, but try not to let it get to you. It's not personal, it's business.

Fun but hard
This is a very punishing game. You micromanage a group of idols and office workers in a building to throw concerts, run ads, and land tv deals. Making enough money for the company to stay afloat is the hard part. The interactions between the idols, and the cut scenes were fun.

A suprisingly robust (and punishing) business manager with cute anime girls
If you like business managers in the past like the tycoon games but were more interested in how to boost numbers and micromanage this maybe one of the best hidden gems out there. The story mode is surprisingly well done with the added bonus that all events outside the plot progression are randomly generated. So scandals or surprised situations could drastically alter your play through making each run unique. The downsides is that it is not an easy game. The story modes tutorial stage is probably the most important thing to pay attention to because once it lets go of the training wheels you will end up in debt in a shocking amount of time. And the game expects that. It won't be long before you are begging your boss or the bank for loans while also battling the current public's music interest at that moment. As well as the positive or negative reputation you place your idol company in. It's a very good meta commentary on the actual idol industry.

Not a game for everyone but at this price it's almost a shame not to at least give it a chance. The Japanese release has a full English translation and it's very well down. The writing is strong and punchy. I didn't find any errors or typos in my run. Again not for everyone but if any of this piqued your interest don't hesitate. You're in for an unique experience.
