Compete with each other or play as a team and double the fun in the very first multiplayer 3D Mario game for the Wii U console – Super Mario 3D Land. This game brilliantly combines the free-roaming gameplay of 3D Mario titles with the mechanics of 2D side-scrolling platforming games in the series. Choose from four playable characters, each having their unique characteristics and abilities to allow variety in the game. Mario has average running speed and jump height, Luigi jumps higher, Peach can jump and float through the air for a short period of time, and Toad runs the fastest – different characters for different players. Players can also now explore the same level simultaneously and share a pool of extra lives!Super Mario 3D Land also introduces a new item called Catsuit – a very cute get-up that allows players to run on all fours, pounce on foes, attack in mid-air, or use their claws to scamper up walls and goal poles. Great co-op fun, a must buy for all Wii U owners!
I've recently purchased this game as I was looking for more couch co-op games to try with my wife, and I am very glad I did. This is a great Mario game. The sort-of-fixed camera angle both makes gameplay easier and more difficult (oddly enough), but the result is a fun Mario experience that even someone less familiar or comfortable with platformers can enjoy.
The co-op aspect is incredibly well implemented, almost every level can be played together (with the exception of a few stand-alone extra levels, it appears), and it's just a whole lot of fun playing together. I also tried this with two friends which made things more chaotic, but also more fun. After each level ends the game shows you per-user scores which adds a little bit of competitiveness (if you like — it's easily ignored).
I highly recommend this game to anyone who is looking for quality Wii U titles, especially if you're looking for couch coop games. Get it!
