For hardcore fans only
It's a one-on-one fighter that's more focused on projectiles than melee combat. You can transform between robot, vehicle and beast modes. During a fight, there can be an energon buildup making your robot mode useless so you have to transform to one of the other two modes.

The Playstation version has better character selection, graphics, sounds, overall presentation and is just more fun to play, but even that is just mediocre. This N64 game just isn't as good.

The N64 version has a couple of extras, such as mini games and a "Kids Mode" where the characters are chibi-sized, but this Japanese version lacks the 4 hidden characters from the American N64 game. This Japanese version is supposed to have connectivity with the GBC Beast Wars game, but I've never been able to find a copy to try it.

Overall the game is just not very fun, and if you really need a Beast Wars fix you'd be better off going for the PS1 version.
